Everytime I turn on computer and select an app. Even task manager or settings a greenish pop up appears duplicating the app or tab and freezes. Can’t type or click anywhere.

just started yesterday.

Hi @Northbound11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy is showing a greenish pop-up that duplicates the open app or tab and freezes the computer whenever you try to use it. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode

Press and hold the Power button to turn off the computer.

Turn it back on and immediately press F11 (or EscF11) to access Advanced Startup Options.

Go to Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart.

After restart, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

Check if the pop-up still appears in Safe Mode.

Check for Recent Updates

If the problem started yesterday, it might be due to a Windows or driver update.

In Safe Mode, go to Settings → Windows Update → Update History → Uninstall Updates and remove the most recent one.

Restart normally to see if the issue is resolved.

Scan for Malware or Adware

Run Windows Security → Virus & Threat Protection → Full Scan.

Malicious software can sometimes cause overlay pop-ups or freeze apps.

Update Graphics Drivers

In Safe Mode, press Windows + X → Device Manager → expand Display Adapters.

Right-click your graphics driver → Update driver → Search automatically.

If already updated, you can try Uninstall device → Restart, and Windows will reinstall it automatically.

Disable Startup Apps

In Safe Mode, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Go to the Startup tab and disable any unfamiliar or unnecessary apps.

Restart normally and see if the issue persists.

Check for Corrupted System Files

Open Command Prompt as Administrator (search “cmd” → right-click → Run as administrator).

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Allow the scan to complete and follow on-screen instructions if it finds corrupted files.

Create a New User Profile

Sometimes profile corruption can cause these issues.

Go to Settings → Accounts → Family & other users → Add someone else to this PC.

Log in with the new profile to see if the pop-up still occurs.

I hope this helps.
