Hi @Aflisa12

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That’s a tough situation—especially with such a new device.

Let’s tackle both issues methodically so you can get your HP OmniBook X laptop back in working order.

This is often caused by a driver glitch, privacy toggle, or firmware miscommunication. Here's what to try:

1. Check Webcam Privacy Switch or Shutter Key

Some HP laptops have a physical switch or key (often F8 or F10) that disables the webcam. Try toggling it.

2. Device Manager Check

  • Press Win + X → select Device Manager
  • Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras
  • If your webcam is listed, right-click → Uninstall device
  • Restart your laptop to reinstall the driver automatically

3. HP Webcam Troubleshooter

HP provides a detailed guide for webcam issues:

BitLocker Recovery Code Prompt

This usually happens after a BIOS update, hardware change, or unexpected crash. Here’s how to retrieve your recovery key:

1. Check Your Microsoft Account

2. Other Places to Check

  • If your laptop was set up by an organization (school or work), contact IT—they may have the key
  • If you saved the key to a USB or printed it, check your physical records

If you can’t find the key, unfortunately, you won’t be able to access the encrypted data. You may need to reset Windows and lose local files.

Keep me posted on how it goes. Let’s get this sorted.
