Hi @Sjejsjjej

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely stressful to be caught in a BIOS update loop—especially when the system keeps rebooting with only a blinking cursor in the top-left corner. That cursor typically means the system can’t locate a valid bootloader, often due to a failed or incomplete BIOS flash.

Here’s a structured recovery path to help restore your system:

Step-by-Step Recovery for Failed BIOS Update

1. Confirm USB BIOS Recovery Setup

Make sure the USB recovery drive is correctly prepared:

  • Format the USB to FAT32
  • Download the correct BIOS update for your laptop from the HP Software & Driver Downloads
  • Run the BIOS installer on a working PC and choose Create Recovery USB
  • Ensure the USB contains files like BIOS.bin, HPBIOSUPDREC.exe, or similar

If the USB isn’t properly structured, the system won’t recognize it during recovery.

2. Use Forced BIOS Recovery Mode

You’ve already tried Win + B, but let’s confirm the full sequence:

  • Power off the laptop completely
  • Insert the recovery USB
  • Press and hold Windows + B
  • While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds
  • Release the Power button, but continue holding Windows + B for up to 20 seconds

If successful, the screen should show BIOS recovery in progress. If it doesn’t, continue to the next step.

3. Try Alternate Key Combinations

Some HP models respond to different recovery triggers:

  • Try Windows + V instead of Windows + B
  • Repeat the same power-on sequence with this combination

4. Clear CMOS (If Accessible)

If your laptop allows access to the CMOS battery:

  • Disconnect power and remove the battery (if removable)
  • Open the back panel and locate the CMOS battery
  • Disconnect it for 5 minutes, then reconnect
  • Reassemble and retry BIOS recovery

This clears residual firmware settings and may allow the system to reinitialize.

5. Contact HP Phone Support for Firmware Reflash

If the system continues to reboot with only a blinking cursor:

  • The BIOS may be corrupted beyond recovery
  • HP service centers can perform a firmware reflash using specialized tools
  • You can initiate support through the HP Contact Portal

Let me know your exact laptop model and BIOS version if you’d like help confirming the correct recovery files—I’ll guide you through it.

You’re clearly doing everything right under pressure, and this kind of issue deserves a clean resolution.
