I thought I would be able to purchase a stylus for my 14a-nf0005TU  Touchscreen Chromebook but I notice that there are no Stylus settings in the Device or Accessibility  Settings sections. My friend has a Lenovo touchscreen Chromebook and he uses the stylus like a moveable magnifying glass which he has setup as an accessibility aid because of his poor eyesight.
I do not want to buy a USI stylus without assurance that it will work on my HP 14a-nf0005TU  Touchscreen Chromebook. So far HP has has not been very helpful.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Alternatively, can I download an app which will serve the same purpose i.e. magnify the screen if you point at the location you want magnified.

Hi @GZbig,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Stylus Compatibility for HP Chromebooks!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

For your HP Chromebook model 14a-nf0005TU, it's important to first confirm if it supports stylus input as not all Chromebooks are equipped with the necessary digitizer for active capacitive stylus pens.

Stylus Compatibility for HP Chromebooks

Confirm Digitizer Support:

  • Check the specifications of your Chromebook to ensure it includes digitizer support necessary for stylus operation. This information can typically be found in the user manual or on the HP support website.

Alternative Stylus Types:

  • If your Chromebook does not support active stylus pens, you can use a passive stylus, which functions like a finger on the screen. Passive styluses are generally universal and can be used with most touch screen devices. They do not require settings as they are not pressure sensitive nor do they have built-in features like palm rejection.

Accessibility Features with Stylus

While your friend's setup on the Lenovo Chromebook may offer enhanced accessibility features, here are steps to explore similar features on an HP Chromebook:

Enable Magnifier Feature:

  • HP Chromebooks generally offer a screen magnifier utility.
  • Navigate to Settings > Device > Accessibility. Check for magnifier options, which can zoom in on sections of the screen to aid visibility.

Control Zoom with Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + Shift + Plus (+) to zoom in, and Ctrl + Shift + Minus (-) to zoom out directly on the screen, assisting with on-screen content navigation.

Explore Third-Party Apps:

  • Look into third-party applications available on the Chrome Web Store that offer enhanced accessibility features which can be activated using touches or gestures.

Use of Passive Stylus:

  • Since active stylus features may not be supported, using a passive stylus will still enable you to navigate the touch screen effectively without specific stylus settings.

Considerations for Buying a Stylus

For Chromebooks that do not support active styluses, purchasing a universal passive stylus might be the best approach. Ensure it's designed for capacitive screens which are commonly used in Chromebooks.

I hope this helps.
