Yes, I would try the McAfee removal tool.

McAfee KB - How to remove McAfee products from a PC that runs Windows (TS101331)

Unfortunately, I don't know why you were asked to setup a Microsoft account to log in.

Maybe it was a one time glitch.

If you can't fix those glitches, it would be best if you clean install W10 by using the Media creation tool to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive or use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive unless that is what you made before.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Thanks, I was sort of shocked when I noticed it wanting me to sign in using the Microsoft account.   I just left it and like I said when I came back it was on the desktop like the last time I used it.

I think I can get rid of the McAfee using that tool.

If I get any more messages I may use the Media creation tool .  That is what I used to begin with but couldn't get all the drivers loaded so I used the one that was made the day after my SIL bought the laptop.

I will let you know and thanks again for your help.  Tom

You're very welcome, Tom.

I can help you with the drivers.

That's not a problem.

Paul
