Pavillion X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello All,

I hope somebody can help me with the problem

I’m having. My Pavillion that is less then 2 years old has a very slow and laggy startup and then completely freezes shortly after startup. I did the virtual assistant through HP and did a system check upon initial boot and everything came out ok. I can’t do much else because when I try to get into my window defender the computer freezes before it gives me a chance to open it. I did not renew my McAfee after the trial period expired and it seems everything went downhill after that. That’s really all the info I can give as I don’t have the ability to check anything else. Any ideas?

Very slow and laggy laptop is often the sign of a failing hard drive.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu -- that will look similar to the image below
HP Startup Menu.jpg
3) press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.
