Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all

Upon starting the laptop today (having used it with no issue yesterday, no updated done or any new software installed), the laptop seemed slow as it was processing something. When I tried to open a website, it warned me of a date mismatch (usual with SSL sites), when I went to check the year was showing as 9219. I have automatic time/date enable over the internet (as it is default for Win10), but when I tried forcing an update the computer hung. Now I get a black screen when trying to restart. Going to the recovery menu (pressing F8), both trying to boot into sabe mode and restoring to a previous point (last one shown is frmo 22-Sep), are not successful. Also tried fixing the year through BIOS but seems it changes itself back upon the restart (as trying the system restore warns me that the point is over 60 days old even though it's not - so it thinks it is in the year 9219!).

Unsure what to do next, aside frmo a full reinstall. Worried it could be some sort of hardware issue with the BIOS being corrupted.

@havoc4421 Since you've done most of the troubleshooting steps, I recommend you start with performing a hardware test to identify the cause of the malfunction:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

@Moe15 If you've already done all the steps suggested to the OP and yet the issue persists, I suggest you create a new user account and check if that works,

if nothing work, please click here for details on how to reset windows once you've created an external backup of all your personal data.

Hi

I pressed F11 to do a recovery for my laptop, went to HP recovery. At first i chose to backup my files but then i pressed the button Back and continued on to reocver my laptop without backing up my files. However, after some time, an error occurred and then a box popped and said: parameters are not found or incorrect. It was still 0%. It stayed like this for 30mins. Everything i press would give me the same box about parameters being not found. Even pressing reboot or shutting down. So i pressed and hold the power button. After I turning on my laptop, the following was written: Boot device not found, please install an operating system. Hard disk 3F0.

@Moe15

Thank you for posting back.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. The last thing I can suggest trying is a restore back to the factory by downloading the recovery image.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Note: Before initiating the recovery process try performing the hard drive test

  1. Plug the AC adapter into the computer.
  2. Press the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  3. Turn on the computer and start pressing Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  4. When the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu displays, click Component Tests.
  5. In the Component Tests menu, click Hard Drive.
  6. Click the Quick Test.
  7. Click Run once. If the computer has more than one hard drive, click Test All Hard Drives. The Quick Test begins.
  8. If the computer has more than one hard drive, select the drive you want to test. To test all the hard drives, select Test All Hard Drives.

When a test is complete, the results display on the screen. Test results are also available in the Test Logs on the main menu.

If the hard drive passes the Quick Test, but a problem still exists with the hard drive, run the Extensive Test. This test includes the SMART Check, Short DST, Optimized DST, and Long DST. To run a specific test, select it from the Hard Drive Tests menu.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello, i installed windows on a usb drive. Now im installing windows on my laptop, i clicked on custom installation and not Upgrade.

After that, there are multiple drivers (drive 0 partition 1 Data, drive 0 partition 2 Revocery. Drive 1 unallocated space, drive 1 partition 1 WiNDOWS... and more). What is the next step? Do i delete these drivers or do i format them or do i just press Next on any driver?

Thank you
