My HP Envy x360 Ryzen 4500U boots up and works normally if I turn it on for the first time. But if I restart, I get a black screen and it doesnt boot. This is making it impossible for me to reinstall Windows because the installation process involves automatic restarts. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

@k1riby, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like your HP Envy x360 with Ryzen 4500U is experiencing boot issues when trying to restart. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check for BIOS Updates:

  • It's possible that a BIOS update is required to correct compatibility issues with Windows or provide critical updates.
  • Visit the HP Support website to check for any available BIOS updates for your specific model.

Perform Hard Reset:

  • Shut down your laptop completely.
  • Disconnect all external devices and power adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter and try to boot up the laptop again.

Reset System Settings:

  • If your laptop boots successfully, try resetting the system settings to default.
  • Access BIOS settings by pressing the specific key during boot-up (like F10 for HP laptops), and select "Load Setup Defaults" in the BIOS menu.

Check RAM and Storage:

  • Ensure that the RAM and storage drives are properly seated.
  • If you're comfortable, open the back panel and check for loose connections.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • A clean boot can help determine if there are conflicting software or services on your system.
  • Search for "msconfig" in the Start menu, go to the "Services" tab, check "Hide all Microsoft services," and disable the rest.

Try Safe Mode:

  • Boot into Safe Mode to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if third-party applications are causing the issue.

Attempt Windows Reinstallation using USB:

  • Use a different method to reinstall Windows, such as creating a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation media.
  • Make sure to select UEFI mode if your system supports it.

Test with Different Display:

  • Connect the laptop to an external display to rule out any display-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
