Hi @Lauren1401,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop has charged but shut down unexpectedly and is not turning back on even when connected to power. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

a. Check Power Source

Ensure the wall outlet is working by plugging in another device (like a lamp or phone charger).

If you’re using a surge protector or extension cord, try connecting the laptop directly to the wall outlet.

b. Verify Power Cord & Adapter

Make sure both ends of the power cord are firmly connected to the adapter and the laptop.

Check the adapter for any visible damage, unusual heat, or loose connections.

c. Power Button Test

Hold down the power button for 10–15 seconds, then press it once again to try turning it on.

d. Check for Power Indicators

Look for any lights (near the power button or on the adapter).

Listen for fan noise or drive activity when pressing the power button.

e. Remove External Devices

Disconnect all USB devices, printers, and accessories. Sometimes a faulty peripheral can prevent startup.

f. Perform a Hard Reset (if supported)

Unplug the power cord from the wall and laptop.

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.

Reconnect only the power cord and try turning it on again.

g. Check Display

Make sure the brightness isn’t turned down all the way.

If the laptop powers on (lights/fan) but the screen stays black, it could be a display issue.

I hope this helps.
