Hello, I am in need of direction. My HP Laptop Flagship edition, started up in the Automatic Repair mode. Any time I select any of the options to try, it makes me enter a password.  I enter my Microsoft account password and it says incorrect,  I even reset it. I looked up that maybe it needs a Bitlocker key but I don't have one for this device. The prompt says: my **bleep** account which is linked to my Microsoft account,  and then says enter the password for this account.

I have already done the F2 run quick test part 1 and 2 and everything passed.

Without having the Bitlocker key your only option would be to reinstall Windows on the encrypted drive.

All data on the drive cannot be recovered without the Bitlocker key.

If your PC is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool, I recommend that you use that utility on another PC to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reset the drive to its 'out of the box' condition.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool:

Thank you for your response.  I just wanted to make sure I have no other option before booting from a USB. It isn't actually asking for the Bitlocker recovery key specifically.  It says the password associated with my account.  Which I assumed was my Microsoft account.  But when I entered that it said incorrect.  So I'm not really sure if it's asking for Bitlocker key or another password,  since it isn't termed that way anywhere in the screens I've been stuck in.

The only reason I found the term Bitlocker key was from GPT. Is was not shown on any of the repair mode screens. Also I ran the quick test for all the systems and every one passed. So I was also confused about what is really wrong.

You're very welcome.

If the PC is requesting that you enter a 48 digit Bitlocker recovery key that is what is needed for you to regain access to your notebook.

If you do not have 48 character key, and it isn't stored in your Microsoft account or elsewhere (you printed it out when you set up your PC), unfortunately, your only option if you want to use your notebook again, is the information I posted.
