@Angelina_k, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Laptop Power Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your laptop turns on for a brief moment before shutting down repeatedly, you might be facing several possible issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

Check the Power Adapter and Battery:

  • Ensure that your power adapter is properly connected to the laptop and a working electrical outlet.
  • Try using the laptop with the power adapter only, removing the battery to see if the issue persists.
  • Alternatively, try using the battery without the power adapter to determine if either is causing the problem.

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB devices, printers, external monitors).
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning on your laptop.

Inspect Hardware Components:

  • Ensure the RAM modules are properly seated. You might also try reseating or swapping the RAM modules if you have multiple.
  • Check the connections of other internal components (like the hard drive).

Cooling and Ventilation:

  • Ensure that the vents are not blocked and clean of dust and debris.
  • Overheating can cause shutdowns, so ensure your cooling system (fans) are functioning correctly.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If the laptop stays on for a bit longer, try accessing Safe Mode by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 immediately after turning it on.
  • If it boots into Safe Mode successfully, it could be a software issue or driver conflict.

Update and Reset BIOS:

  • Access the BIOS settings (usually by pressing Esc, Del, or F2 during startup).
  • Update the BIOS to the latest version if possible.
  • Reset BIOS settings to default to ensure there are no misconfigurations.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
