HP Stream 14' HD Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I owned an HP Stream laptop for 2 years and I had an issue with disk space on my laptop, even when I plug in my hard drives. It was so stressful that Windows Update couldn't perform it's updates due to the disk space.

One day I decided to reset my laptop, hoping it could give me a fresh start. However, my laptop said my laptop could not do a reset without an explanation.

I have tried doing a system restore, deleting programs, using hard drives,  download antivirus softwares, but none of them worked. My laptop would not do a system restore, by the way.

I already backed up my files and I don't know what to do next.

Edit: added 2 years in first paragraph.

@104PecanTree Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thank you for posting.

I have used the very same HP Stream fancy computer. I was given it by HP as a loaner PC for testing purposes due to active contribution to the Community.

This is considered a cloudbook/netbook.

For just around 200 $ you get this small portable PC + long lasting battery + Windows license + additional software = all just for 200 $

It's really worth the money but it can't have all the perks of a PC which costs 2000 USD.

  • However, I do feel for you and I do understand your Windows 10 issues.

The permanent (or long lasting) solution is to reinstall Windows and to perform fresh clean Windows installation.

Currently, your PC has a recovery partition which can be used to reinstall Windows or for recovery purposes but it takes a lot of time. By reinstalling Windows 10, you can delete this and gain some 8-10 GB space extra.

The partition may be corrupted due to Windows 10 updates.

This is the fastest, cheapest (free) and easiest solution - not difficult - below you can see instructions in a PDF file
