Hi @Mickey107,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP computer is buffering, shows that it needs an update, but then won’t load or complete the update. Let’s walk through the steps to fix this and get your system running smoothly again.

Recommended Steps to Fix Update & Buffering Issues

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary memory and can fix stuck update loops.

  1. Shut down your computer completely.
  2. Unplug the power cord and any peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Plug everything back in and restart.

2. Boot into Safe Mode

This allows you to bypass update errors and troubleshoot.

  1. Turn off the PC.
  2. Turn it on and press F8 or Shift + F8 repeatedly (or hold Shift while clicking Restart).
  3. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart
  4. Select Safe Mode with Networking

Once in Safe Mode:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update
  • Try installing updates again

3. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

This tool can fix stuck or failed updates.

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
  • Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
  • Follow the prompts

4. Clear Windows Update Cache

Corrupted update files can cause buffering and failure.

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator
  2. Run these commands one by one:

net stop wuauserv

net stop bits

del /f /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

net start wuauserv

net start bits

Then restart your PC and try updating again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
