HP Probook 440 g2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The laptop hangs a lot nowadays and has to be shut down forcefully.

Sometimes says boot device not found when starting, but otherwise starts.

Formatted and clean installed windows 10 pro and still faced the problem.

Cannot even update drivers. Hangs while updating drivers sometimes as well.

while updating drivers from HP Support Assisstant, it takes forever to download and there is no problem with the connection.

Hello @NeelChakraborty

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.

Please, perform some basic hardware checks

1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button pressed and hold for a while.

2. Power the PC back on.

2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) even before any logo appears.   This should open a HP Startup Menu

3. From the menu, choose/press F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA

If there are no system checks/no quick tests, a dark screen with basic options will appear. Perform hard disk (HDD) and memory (RAM) checks.

Let me know the test results.  The good results is PASS/PASSED

Hope this helps. Provide your feedback/reply. Let me know how it goes

Thank You for responding @IT_WinSec

There was no option for a system check so I have performed the memory and hard drive checks

Memory Quick Check: Passed

As for the Hard Drive Extensive Check, I have uploaded a picture and then there was this scanning drive message.WhatsApp Image 2017-06-19 at 12.00.58 PM.jpegWhatsApp Image 2017-06-19 at 12.00.58 PM (1).jpeg

Hi @NeelChakraborty

Thank you for the screenshots and for following the instructions carefully.

As expected, this is a hardware problem - your hard disk drive has failed and this causes your problems. The HDD needs to be replaced. The code in the picture tells me your your PC's details and serial number and in the HP system it says your product still has active warranty

Serial Number  CND4*****R
Active: Covered under extended warranty, 16 months remaining.

Please, contact HP business support:
or >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/product/HP-ProBook-440-G2-Notebook-PC/6943810/model/6943812?...

Explain them that the hard disk drive has failed and it needs to be replaced. Since your PC is with active warranty, they will either ship one to you for free or will get the laptop and replace the HDD for you for free.

How to replace the HDD can be found in the service guide for your model >> http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04342008-1.pdf
page 45/57

Eventually, after you reinstall Windows the case will be solved 🙂

Hope this helps. Please, provide feedback/reply/update and keep me informed.
