@Charled, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Microphone Verification Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your microphone is not being verified on the proctored exam system diagnostics test, there are several steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Microphone Connection:

  • Ensure that your microphone is properly connected to your computer. If you are using an external microphone, check the cable connections.
  • If your microphone is built-in, make sure it is enabled in your computer's settings.

Verify Microphone Settings:

  • Navigate to Control Panel > Sound > Recording tab (on Windows) to check if your microphone is listed and enabled.
  • Make sure the correct microphone is selected as the default device.

Test Microphone Functionality:

  • Use a simple sound recording application or voice chat application to test the microphone and ensure it’s working correctly.
  • If unavailable, use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool that might include microphone testing. This is accessible during boot by pressing the f2 key > select Component Tests > Audio.

Update Drivers:

  • Check for updates to your microphone driver. This can be done through Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > find your microphone, right-click, and select "Update Driver."

Permission Settings:

  • Verify that your system’s security settings allow applications and browsers to access your microphone.
  • Check your browser's permissions as well - ensure that your browser is allowing microphone access.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
