help please! I have tried all the fixes that come up when you google the question. I tried to disable defender antivirus exec. this made no difference either... is it because my laptop only has 4gb RAM?

Yes, that could be the problem.  Some laptops have soldered in memory and cannot be upgraded.

There are windows operating systems Tiny 10 and Tiny 11 that easily run in 4gb of memory.

The official and complete tiny10 and tiny11 list – NTDEV

You can actually install W11 on unapproved notebook if you want, because Tiny 11 does not check for processor compatibility.

Or you can upgrade memory.  It is also advisable to get rid of apps that you do not need, especially if they are running in background.

Please provide the Product ID or exact model name for better assistance. Preferably the full product ID including the characters after the # symbol as shown here. This code may be needed to find cloud recovery files.
