@Anamaria02, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Pavilion Laptop (Model 14-dv0511sa)!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Pavilion laptop has stopped working but the start/stop button light and charging light are still functional, here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and, hopefully, resolve the issue:
Possible Causes
- Power-related issues: Defective or insufficient power sources, poor connections.
- Hardware failures: Issues with essential components such as the processor, memory, or graphics card.
- Thermal-related issues: Problems with cooling components leading to overheating.
- Diagnostical error messages: Issues during the Power-On Self-Test (POST).
Troubleshooting Steps
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect all external devices and peripherals.
- Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the AC adapter (without battery) and try turning on the laptop.
Check the AC Adapter:
- Verify the functionality of the AC adapter alone. Test with a verified working adapter if available.
- Confirm that the battery is not depleted using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool.
Reseat Hardware Components:
- Disconnect and then reassemble significant internal components (memory, storage drive, etc.) to ensure they are correctly connected.
- Check for any signs of loose connections, bent pins, stray wires, dust accumulation, or nearly faulty parts (e.g., bulging/leaking capacitors).
Reset BIOS Settings:
- If you can access the BIOS, reset it to its default condition.
- This can often be done by pressing a specific key (such as F10, Esc, or Delete) during startup to access the BIOS setup.
Run Hardware Diagnostics:
- Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool to test essential components like the hard drive and memory.
- If available, use the Thermal Monitor tool to ensure cooling components are functioning correctly and your computer is not overheating.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
