Hi, I've been experiencing this issue for about a month. While using my PC, the cursor randomly freezes and becomes unresponsive. This happens regardless of whether the laptop is charging or not, and it's not related to the external mouse, it occurs even without one connected. The touchpad is also in good condition, so that’s not the cause.

I’ve already checked and updated all the drivers, so that’s not the problem. I also ran the UEFI hardware diagnostics, and everything seems fine there. In addition, I performed a full cleaning and maintenance of the laptop, so it’s not related to dust or dirt.

It’s not a memory issue either, since I have 24 GB of RAM available. I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps, but nothing has worked so far.

I’ve also seen similar reports from other users with the same model, so it doesn’t seem to be an isolated case. The problem is becoming more frequent and very frustrating, since I can’t do anything when it happens.

@Luipinberg, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Reinstall or Roll Back Touchpad Driver

Go to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices.

Right-click your touchpad driver and choose Uninstall. Restart your laptop.

If the issue started after a driver update, right-click the driver and select Roll Back Driver.

Adjust Power Settings

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.

Set USB selective suspend setting to Disabled and PCI Express Link State Power Management to Off.

Check for Malware/Background Processes

Run a full virus scan with Windows Defender or your antivirus.

Check Task Manager for programs using too much CPU.

Run System File Check

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and type sfc /scannow. Press Enter.

Update or Reset BIOS

Check for a BIOS update on the HP support website for your model.

If it’s up to date, try resetting it to default settings.

Try Safe Mode

Restart your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issue still happens. If not, it’s likely a software problem.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
