HP Pavilion dv7-4000 Entertainment Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

tldr: mother "helped" me out by upgrading to win10 when I loaned them laptop 😞

Cannot seem to find any reformat ISO for this model. Was past the "rollback" period for the win10 upgrade, and no longer have a physical recovery disc.

Most of my knowlege ends at google, tried reinstalling from a fresh win7 using the oem key, didnt work.

If anyone could point me to a recovery iso, i would appreciate it, as i am living off of a trial version right now.

Hi:

HP no longer sells recovery disks for that model series.

However, you can still get a set from this non-HP vendor at the link below...

Hmm, no one hosts recovery iso's anymore? I have no need for a physical disc or usb, as i already have those.

if you are not allowed to say on this site, blink once for no, twice for yes, or perhaps point me in a direction where someone might be able to.

Microsoft discontinued the unrestricted access to their W7 ISO Digital River download site in February of 2015.

This site until just recently, offered free downloads of W7 Home Premium and Pro, by accessing the Microsoft MSDN site.

However, Microsoft has figured out a way to block them from accessing this site.

The download tool they offer not longer lets you choose W7 as an option to download.

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-downl...

So, no...there is no place you can easily download W7 anymore.

And HP never offered recovery media for download until just recently--and only for their business class PC's.

So, for your model, it is the recovery disks from Computer Surgeons, or nothing.

I guess you can check back on that Heidoc site, and see if they get back into Microsoft's servers again.

M$ kicked them out about 6 months ago, and they got back in after a few weeks.

Seems like they are playing cat and mouse.

MS is offering windows ISO's for free now. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

if you have no key, just leave the feild blank, and the download will proceed.

I know, i found it hard to beleive, especially with google mostly saying MS did not do this.

I also just realised i can just DL what specific input drivers i need, and simply buy a win7 key instead of getting this OEM install, while cutting down on the massive amount of waste that printing a disc, and shipping it across the world would cause.

Thanks alot for the relpies, I guess the answer is normaly just sitting right in front of me.

I have no key, and I get a big red error message Your license key must contain 25 letters and numbers and no special characters: ()[].-#*/

You will note on that page that it says

Follow these steps to download Windows 7

  1. This product requires a valid product activation key for download. Enter the 25 character product key that came with your product purchase in the field below. Your product key is located inside the box that the Windows DVD came in, on the DVD or in a confirmation e-mail that shows you purchased Windows.

Me too.

If I just click on Verify, I get a big red notice that states I must enter a product key.

I had similar issues with it too, after talking with support, that is what they told me to do, and i hadnt even realised that the site had automatically started about 5 downloads from my times reloading the page =\

im now actually really interested to see if i can get it to work again. NOPE, oh well.

it may have been a case of pitty from support, since i had my old keys saved from my oem install. and the key from the win10 install that my family thought was a great idea (thanks mom...)

Either way, i found a discount copy of win7, now i can begin my quest to hunt down the software for my fingerprint scanner =D

Thanks for the replies, and good luck in the new year. I will recommend your first post in case someone stumbles across this madness, since it is obviously the easiest solution.

You're very welcome.

I have heard from other forum members that they have 'thrown themselves at the mercy of Microsoft,' and the tech allowed them to download the file.

But just leaving the product key empty, and clicking on Verify got me nowhere.

Here is the fingerprint sensor driver and software you need for your model...

This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection 2011 Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.

Getting this squared away helps a ton.
