I have an HP 15s laptop (Product ID: 9S6T1AT, Serial: CND4281NMT) under active onsite Care Pack warranty until September 2027.

The laptop originally came with Windows preinstalled, but now the OEM Windows license key is missing from the BIOS.

Running wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey returns blank.

BIOS System Information also shows no Windows Product Key.

Microsoft confirmed this is a motherboard firmware issue, not a Microsoft activation problem.

Currently, Windows 11 Pro (Volume_KMSCLIENT) is installed, and activation fails with error 0x80080005. I want to restore Windows 11 Home with genuine activation under my warranty.

Can HP provide onsite service to restore the OEM key in BIOS or replace the motherboard if needed?

Based on the serial number you posted, the notebook was not sold with Windows.

HP PartSurfer

SPS-MB UMA R5 5625U 255 G9

It came with FreeDOS.

255 G9 notebooks that came with the Ryzen 5-5625U processor motherboards with a Windows product key would have a motherboard part number of N08588-601 as indicated in chapter 3, page 15 of the service manual.

Maintenance and Service Guide

All system boards use the following part numbers:
xxxxxx-001: Non-Windows operating system
xxxxxx-601: Windows 10 operating system

There is no Windows product key in PC's that come with FreeDOS.

The owner of the PC is responsible for suppling a valid Windows product key and activating Windows would not be covered by any warranty.
