Hi @Shakir123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error "Operating system not found" or "PC needs to be repaired" usually indicates a problem with the boot process. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue on your HP 15 Notebook PC.

Check Boot Order in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press the F10 key repeatedly as it starts to open the BIOS setup utility.
  2. In the BIOS menu:
    • Navigate to the Boot Options or Boot Order.
    • Ensure your hard drive or SSD is listed as the first boot device. If not, adjust the order.
  3. Save and exit BIOS (F10 to save changes).

Perform a Hard Drive Test

  1. Restart the laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly to open the HP Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  2. Select System Tests > Hard Drive Test.
  3. If the test fails:
    • Your hard drive may have failed and needs to be replaced.

Use Automatic Repair

If the hard drive passes the test:

  1. Create a Windows 10/11 bootable USB using another computer:
    • Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website.
  2. Boot your HP 15 Notebook PC from the USB:
    • Insert the bootable USB drive.
    • Restart and press F9 to access the Boot Menu.
    • Select the USB drive as the boot device.
  3. Choose Repair your computer > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.

Rebuild Boot Configuration

  1. From the same Windows recovery USB:
    • Open Command Prompt (from Advanced Options).
  2. Type the following commands:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

  1. Restart your PC and check if it boots normally.

Reinstall Windows (if all else fails)

If the above steps don't work, reinstalling Windows might be necessary:

  1. Boot from the Windows USB drive.
  2. Select Install Now, choose Custom Installation, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. If the installation fails to detect your hard drive, the drive may be corrupted and need replacement.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
