I have an HP omen 15 dh1087nr that is suddenly giving me the error your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. Stop code: page_fault_in_nonpaged_ area(0x50)

It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing or if it's just idle. I've checked for updates on everything, I've run scans from command prompt and nothing seems to be fixing it.

I'm considering replacing my ram now but was wondering if anyone had any other thoughts.

Hi @Whatsername85,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (0x50) error on your HP OMEN 15-dh1087nr is a classic Windows stop code that usually points to memory-related issues, but it can also be triggered by drivers or storage corruption. Since you’ve already updated BIOS, checked for updates, and run scans, here’s a deeper troubleshooting plan:

1. Common Causes

  • Faulty RAM or incorrect timings.
  • Corrupted system files or pagefile.
  • Driver conflicts (especially GPU or antivirus).
  • Storage issues (bad sectors on SSD/HDD).

2. Advanced Steps to Fix It

A. Test RAM Thoroughly

  • Run Windows Memory Diagnostic
    • Press Win + R, type mdsched.exe, restart and check the results.
  • For more accuracy, use MemTest86 (bootable USB).
  • If errors appear, replace the faulty RAM stick.

B. Check Pagefile Settings

  • Go to System Properties > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory.
  • Ensure that automatically manage the paging file size is enabled.
  • If custom size is set, revert to automatic.

C. Run System File & Disk Checks

  • In Command Prompt (Admin):  sfc /scannow
                                                            DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
                                                            chkdsk /f /r
  • These commands repair system files and check disk integrity.

D. Update or Roll Back Drivers

  • GPU drivers (NVIDIA/Intel) are common culprits.
  • Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to clean drivers, then reinstall the latest from HP or NVIDIA.

E. Disable Fast Startup

  • Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what power buttons do → Uncheck Turn on fast startup.

F. Check Event Viewer

  • Look for BugCheck or Critical Kernel-Power events for timestamps and driver hints.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
