Product: HP Pavilion 10-n100 x2 Detachable PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Following a problem with Bitlocker and having no key, I formatted drive c: and no longer can boot as there is no operating syetm present. In order to install OS I have created a bootable USB with Windows 7 but the notebook won't read USB despite having changed boot order. There appears to be no legacy boot, only UEFI. As this notebook belongs to a client of mine I desperately need to resolve it. Thanks

If you enter the BIOS, use the system configuration tab and disable secure boot then legacy boot should be available. 

 

The alternative would be to create a bootable USB UEFI Windows 7 installer. You can use a utility like Rufus to make a  bootable  USB UEFI Windows 7 installer. https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Disabling Secure boot doesn't seem to make legacy available. I've created bootable USB's several times but the notebook just refuses to read USB on booting. If it would just do that I'd be home and dry! I'm trying now to make a USB that will replace the BIOS in case it's damaged.

Considering that you have only provided me with the ultrabook's series identification and not a complete product number or product name, you have me at a disadvantage.

 

"Pavilion 10-n100" is the general description of the series.

You are pretty brave to be trying to install Windows 7 on a notebook with the Intel Atom Z8300 chipset. It isn't much different than the HP Stream except for the look. It has the same 32 GB eMMC flash memory that acts as a "hard drive".

 

HP does not supply drivers for Windows 7 for the notebook. If you ask at the Intel Community forum. Intel will let you know that you need to check at HP for support and drivers for Windows 7.

 

HP does supply Windows 10 drivers.

 

Did your client make a USB recovery media flash drive for the notebook?

Thanks for the information. I was just trying Windows 7 install to see if it would even try to boot from USB. I also created a USB Windows 10 install on bootable but it doesn't try to read it so far as I can tell. Just keeps saying there's no OS present and I must install one. No, sadly my client doesn't have a USB recovery so I'm trying to recover it myself by any means possible. But unless I can see it reading a USB I don't know if there's any hope for me? Desperate times!

I am going to try again to create a bootable USB drive with Windows 10 because when I restart the notebook it does at least show a flashing light on the USB as if it's trying to read it. Would it be the 32-bit or 64-bit version I should be copying to the USB to try?

The 64-bit version of Windows is what you need.

 

I recommend using Windows 10 as the drivers are available here.

 

I  expect that the Volume type of the "Hard disk" eMMc flash memory will be GPT for a UEFI hard disk.

I really do appeciate your trying to help me but I have created the USB bootable Windows 10 64-bit selecting GBT and it still doesn't read it. The message displayed continues to be: Please install an operating system on your hard disk. I have tried every option avaiable in BIOS settings including restore defaults eventually. My last hope seems to be using the ISO to create a DVD, plugging in my USB DVD reader and trying it that way. But if it is ignoring the USB is there any likelhood it won't do the same with the DVD?
