Pavilion dv4 5162la
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I have problems installing windows 10 in UEFI mode. I configured the bios with Legacy Support disabled and Secure Boot enabled and disabled, but at the time of selecting the boot device in the boot manager, no device appear. I tried the same configuration in another hp notebook (HP 245 G4) and it works perfectly. Also, with Legacy Support enabled the boot manager recognized the usb key as USB Hard Drive (UEFI) - KingstonDataTraveler 2.0 and USB Hard Drive - KingstonDataTraveler 2.0, but in my dv4 only recognized USB Hard Drive  - KingstonDataTraveler 2.0. I thought it was bios problem so I tried to restore it, but the pc still does not recognize the usb in UEFI mode. If i select Boot From EFI File in boot manager, file explorer is empty. What is wrong with the bios configuration? Thanks.

Welcome to HP Support Forum. I hope you're well @rdelaf!

I read about your notebook issue and wanted to stop in to share my suggestions with you 🙂

I see that you are not able to boot Windows 10 using the USB in UEFI mode on your HP Pavilion even though the configuration works fine in a different HP notebook.

Did you try updating the BIOS on your notebook? You can check the details here: http://hp.care/2jTtZcx
Once the BIOS is updated, then configure the BIOS and try the secure boot again.

Also, you can try updating Windows 10 from here: http://hp.care/2jTm6nf

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Have a great day 🙂

I updated the BIOS to the newest version for my pc (F39), but when configuring the safe boot it still does not show the bootable usb in the boot manager. The only available option is the network boot. In addition, in Legacy Mode, fi i select Boot From EFI File in boot manager, file explorer is still empty.

Hello @rdelaf

Thanks for the update!

Let's try to disable the secure boot and enable the legacy mode. Go to http://hp.care/2drBd3E and follow all the steps under "Using Secure Boot on a desktop computer" (steps are same for laptop).

NB: Once in exit screen make sure you type the 4 digit codeNo text field displays for the code. This is expected behavior. When you type the numbers, the code is logged without a text field.

Once the laptop is restarted, go to the f9 menu and try to boot using the USB. If the USB option is not coming up send me a screen shot of the F9 boot options so that I can help you better.

Let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂
