I downloaded the HP NOTEBOOK SYSTEM BIOS UPDATE. It stated that the update would take a while, keep it plugged it and do not turn computer off. The computer was turned off accidentally,  I turned it back on immediately but nothing is happening,  the screen is black, the CAPS LOCK is blinking twice, every 5 seconds and the wireless button is off.

What can I do to get the computer operational again, PLEASE I NEED HELP, I am intermediate to advanced with computers but the BIOS is an area that I know very little about.

Thanks

Hi @Chopsueyq_4872,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the computer doesn't boot back into the windows since the last attempt at updating/Flashing the BIOS,

Don't worry I'll help you out, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

Do you know if this was a BIOS or a windows update?

When was the last time it worked (Date)?

Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on HP Forums?

In the meantime, please attempt the below steps:

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC:

* If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

* If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

* With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

* With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

* Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted): Click here

Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC

Step 2: Find the BIOS updates

Step 3: Download and install the BIOS update

@IT was the BIOS UPDATE @ HP SUPPORT, I was given this fabulous laptop from my sister after she purchased a new one for herself. She had minor issues that were troubling and aggravating her so when I took the laptop over, I reset Windows 10. However, when I reset it, I didn't realize that all the files were being erased as well, including the drivers and other software. So, I went to HP to download the software needed and the very last one was the HP NOTEBOOK SYSTEM BIOS UPDATE...... I wish I would have listen to my gut and not do it, but I did. I'm excellent  around computers, BUT the BIOS area, I'm not too familiar with. ....Any assistance and help you could provide me would be greatly appreciated and will pay it forward. I'm very excited to be part of the HP Community and have been a loyal customer for over 20 years, I fully endorse and recommend HP products.  I have owned 1 computer that was not a HP and it was a piece of crap GATEWAY....... IF IT AIN'T BROKE......DON'T FIX IT! I look forward to your response.

I àm so upset, I believe the BIOS is corrupted, I have tried all of your directions to the letter, the hard reset was unsuccessful  as well as the BIOS instructions,  I used the B & V key with the winows key,........ the only thing I HAVE NOT TRIED IS RESEATING THE HARD DRIVE & MEMORY. I really need help, I need to fix this, I ' m on a fixed budget and I sure hope this isn't going to cost a fortune. .

Hello @Chopsueyq_4872

Thanks for the update! I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

Since the rollback of the BIOS did not yield any result, performing a system recovery is the last step to troubleshoot this issue. This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software. All you save files will be lost and your computer will be formatted to the day you purchased the machine.

You can check the details here: http://hp.care/2cf8noz

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

I haven't been able to try your steps yet, waiting until the weekend..........HOWEVER,  If none of these steps,  do you know approximately what the cost will be if I need to send it to HP to reset to factory settings? So far the suggestions for the BIOS INSTRUCTIONS have not been successful at all. The only thing the computer keeps doing when the power bottom is pressed is the CAPS LOCK blinks twice & the wireless button is off , showing the Orange is light on. This computer hasn't had any issues except for this
