Hello Paul,

I happen to have an old, and nice, HP DV8408US with Intel CPU.  I had upgraded the machine to an SSD boot drive, Windows 7 x64, and a T7600 2.33 Ghz Core2 Duo CPU.  I always kept the BIOS up to date but never found one supporting the full 4GB RAM I had installed.  It shows 3GB instead, even with a 64-bit OS.

Did you know of another BIOS that maybe fixed that issue?  Could you point me to it by FTP link?  I know HP doesn't offer a friendly site link anymore due to the age of the machine.

Thanks!

Hi:

I believe the last BIOS update for your notebook's model series was F.24.

It was meant to be run in Windows Vista, so I don't know what the risk would be if you ran it in W7.

There is no longer any information on the file or what it fixes or enhances.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp37159.exe

Windows 32 or 64 bit on any Intel 945 chipset based platform will never show the full 4 GB memory utilization.

The max I have ever encountered was 3.25 GB.

Most of the memory goes to the graphics' shared system memory.

The only time you will find close to the 4 GB utilization on a 64 bit system, is if the PC supports 8 GB of memory, which yours does not.
