Unable to boot my laptop due to a corrupt system file. In need of a copy of the original Setup CD to repair and boot my laptop.
Product Name: HP Pavilion dv1000
S/N: [edit]
P/N: ET898UA#ABA
OS: XP Home Edition
This system is 12 yrs old and I wish to transfer data from this system to my new HP Envy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim.

Assuming the hard drive to be still good on the WinXP PC - if all you wish to do is retrieve the data and you know where it is, then remove the hard drive and either connect it to the new PC or use an external adapter to allow the new PC to see the drive. Something on the order of this
That old drive is probably an IDE drive, so connect it to the adapter and then plug in the power to the adapter power source and the connect the USB to the new PC. If you have permissions problems with Windows, you can use a Live Linux OS to just copy the files over to the new PC's hard drive and then you are good.
