Dear HP Support Team,

I own an HP EliteBook 840 G2 laptop. Recently, a BIOS administrator password has been set automatically — I never created this password myself. Because of this, I am unable to access BIOS settings to enable VT-x.

Here are my laptop details:

  • Model: HP EliteBook 840 G2

This laptop is my personal device, and I am the original and only owner. Unfortunately, I do not have an invoice available, but I can provide any additional details you require to verify ownership.

I kindly request your assistance in providing an SMC.bin file or instructions to remove/reset the BIOS administrator password so I can regain access to my BIOS settings.

Thank you for your support

Hello @26272011 ,

Welcome to the HP community.

A quick community search for the terms BIOS & Password finds all these posts >here<, which are mainly closed with the below explanation:

Unfortunately, you will need to contact an HP agent for problems with BIOS passwords.

Here is HP's official policy regarding BIOS passwords:

According to the Community's Rules of Participation:

4d. No posts shall include instructions/directions intended to bypass or subvert security mechanisms such as lock screens, BitLockers, BIOS lock, passwords, fingerprint/biometry scanners, PINs, or any other safety measures.

Therefore, this topic is being locked. If you would like help resetting the password on your product, please Contact HP support in your region.

For cases related to BitLocker issues, please contact Microsoft Support.

The only way to recover your PC's BitLocker key is if you printed it out or exported it to your Microsoft account when you first set up your PC.

Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support

Without the key, you will have to clean install Windows on the encrypted drive so you can use your PC again.

Best regards

Steffen Baier
