Hi @StanleyRM,.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Hello Kuroi - thanks for your response. The model name of my PC is 15-dy2034nr. There's another name listed which is 15s-fq2000.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, and I appreciate you sharing your laptop model. I apologize — it seems we didn’t receive your earlier response on our end.

I understand your HP 15-dy2034nr is not detecting the SD card and shows a “Driver not connected” message. In the meantime, please try the following steps to resolve the issue:

a. Check Device Manager

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Memory technology devices / SD Host adapters.

If you see an unknown device or a device with a yellow exclamation mark, right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.

b. Enable SD Card Reader in BIOS/UEFI

Restart the laptop and press Esc → F10 to enter BIOS.

Go to Advanced → Built-in Device Options → Ensure SD Card Reader is enabled.

Save and exit BIOS.

c. Windows Update

Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.

Install any pending updates, especially optional updates related to drivers.

d. Install HP Support Assistant Drivers

Open HP Support Assistant → My devices → Updates → Check for driver updates.

Install any available chipset or card reader drivers.

e. Test with Another SD Card

If possible, try a different SD card to rule out card-specific issues.

I hope this helps.

sorry - none of this is effective.  In the first option, there is no Memory Technology devices options available. Second option, there is no link to the SD Card. The latter options do nothing as all updates are current.

Hi @StanleyRM,

Thank you for the update and clarifying what you’ve tried so far. Since the usual steps haven’t resolved the issue, let’s go through a detailed procedure to further isolate the problem with your SD card reader:

a. Check Device Manager Thoroughly
 - Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
 - Look under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” or “Other devices” for any unknown devices or devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
 - Right-click → Update driver → Search automatically.

b. Run Hardware & Devices Troubleshooter
 - Press Windows + R, type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic, and press Enter.
 - Follow the on-screen instructions to detect hardware issues and apply any fixes.

c. Enable SD Card Reader in BIOS/UEFI
 - Restart your laptop and press Esc → F10 to enter BIOS.
 - Go to Advanced → Built-in Device Options and ensure SD Card Reader / Memory Card Reader is enabled.
 - Save changes and exit.

d. Check Chipset Drivers
 - Open HP Support Assistant → My devices → Updates → Check for driver updates.
 - Install all chipset and storage controller updates, as missing chipset drivers can prevent the SD card reader from appearing.

e. Test with Another SD Card
 - Use a different SD card to confirm if the issue is card-specific or system-wide.

f. Check Windows Services
 - Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
 - Look for Shell Hardware Detection and ensure it is Running and set to Automatic.

g. Optional: System File Check
 - Open Windows Terminal (Admin) and run:
  sfc /scannow
 - This will repair corrupted system files that may affect device detection.

I hope this helps.

none of these helped either.  I just ran a full diagnostic of the hard drive/SSD and all came back as good.

I did receive another uninstalled SD driver though the process. As you can see, the top and bottom drivers are no connected, but present

Hi @StanleyRM,

Thank you for sharing that update and the details regarding the diagnostic results and driver status. I appreciate your patience as we work through this.

I understand your HP 15-dy2034nr is still showing disconnected SD card drivers even though the components appear in Device Manager. Let’s go through a few advanced steps to help reconnect the SD Card Reader:

a. Manually Reinstall SD Card Reader Driver
 - Press Windows + X → Device Manager.
 - Right-click the disconnected SD Card drivers → Uninstall device (check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available).
 - Restart your laptop.
 - Open HP Support Assistant → My devices → Updates and reinstall the latest Realtek / Intel SD Host Controller driver.

b. Verify Chipset & IO Drivers
 - Open HP Support Assistant again and ensure all Chipset, IO, and Storage Controller drivers are up to date.
 - Alternatively, visit the HP Support website for your model (HP 15-dy2034nr) and manually download the latest Chipset and Card Reader drivers.

c. Power Cycle with Battery Reset
 - Power off the laptop and disconnect all external devices (including SD cards and USB drives).
 - Unplug the AC adapter.
 - Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.
 - Reconnect only the power adapter and restart the laptop.
 - Check if the SD Card Reader reconnects automatically.

I hope this helps.
