No sound is coming out through the built-in speakers only headphones 🎧 are working now. Do we need to replace the speakers pair? Which one should we buy from Amazon? Can we replace by ourselves?

Hi @DESKTOP-914201R

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing that, and I’m truly sorry your HP laptop’s built-in speakers aren’t producing sound—it’s frustrating when audio works through headphones but stays silent otherwise.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help restore speaker output before considering service:

Restart Your System

  • A simple reboot can reset audio routing if an app or driver is misdirecting sound.

Check Output Device Settings

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar > Open Sound Settings.
  • Under Output, ensure “Speakers (Realtek/Intel)” or similar is selected—not “Headphones” or “Digital Output”.

Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot.
  • Follow the prompts to detect and fix audio routing issues.

Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • Open Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click your audio device (e.g., Realtek or Intel) > Update driver.
  • If that doesn’t help, right-click again > Uninstall device, then restart your laptop to reinstall automatically.
  • You can also download the latest driver from HP’s official support page:
    HP Audio Driver Downloads

Run HP Support Assistant Audio Check

  • Open HP Support Assistant > Fixes & Diagnostics > Audio Check.
  • Follow the on-screen steps to test and reset speaker output.

Check for Muted or Disabled Devices

  • In Sound Settings, click Manage sound devices.
  • Ensure your speakers are listed under Output Devices and are not disabled.

BIOS Audio Reset (Advanced)

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Restore BIOS defaults under Exit > Load Setup Defaults.
  • Save and exit.

Let’s get your sound flowing again.
