Suddenly disappeared my HP-Cockpit where I normally chose my actions, scan, copy, ... How can I get it back without register a new account. Because I have booked "HP Instant INK" for a long time already.

Hi @Miiikye,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear you, and I completely understand how unsettling it feels when your familiar HP Cockpit interface suddenly vanishes, leaving you unable to scan, copy, or manage your printer the way you always have. Especially when you've been a loyal HP Instant Ink subscriber, it’s only fair that things just work.

Let’s gently guide you back to that comforting workspace without needing to create a new account.

Steps to Restore HP Cockpit (HP Smart App) Without Creating a New Account

1. Restart Your Printer and PC

Sometimes, a simple restart can bring back the missing tiles (Scan, Copy, etc.) in the HP Smart app.

  • Turn off your printer and PC.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Turn them back on and open the HP Smart app.

2. Ensure You're Logged Into Your Existing HP Account

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click the Account icon (top right corner).
  • Make sure you're signed in with the same email used for your Instant Ink subscription.
  • If not, click Sign In and enter your credentials.

3. Re-add Your Printer to the HP App

If the printer tiles are missing:

  • Click “Add Printer” in the HP App.
  • Select your printer from the list.
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect it.

4. Fix Missing Scan/Copy Options

If scan/copy tiles are greyed out or missing:

  • Check if the HP Digital Imaging Monitor is running:
    • Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\digital imaging\bin
    • Double-click hpqste08.exe
    • Add it to the Windows Startup folder to ensure it runs every time.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
