I did a factory reset on my laptop and I then received the following error message:
"An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
I am currently using a security disc that uses Linux (not sure of spelling).
I have been trying to download windows 7 from microsoft but that doesn't work. They said I need to contact manufactuer as my laptop already came installed with windows 7.
And the HP site isn't being helpful to me at the moment.

Certain HP models have a download recovery option (Cloud recovery) like this >> http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c05115630
However, your model does not have such an option - I just checked.
You do not need to download anything - you just need to visit a website and purchase a recovery media and a physical discs will be delivered to you so that you can use them. This one specifically >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-21201-recovery-kit-659186-121-for-hp-notebook-pc-model-number-2000...
This is needed because your recovery partition (F11) is not working and because you haven't previously created your own recovery media for free.
Once you receive the media, please follow the steps mentioned above to boot from the first DVD and to perform the recovery.
Hope this helps.

Hello @Spaz009
Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for your post.
The message you get means that the Reset you have performed was not successful.
May be you can give it another try ? Here is how :
Video example >> https://youtu.be/dFBWPmy32ms?t=99
If the above still fails, this means there is some other problem - for example hardware issue or the HP Recovery partition is gone/corrupted. In this case, please proceed to the next step , which is using original HP Recovery media.
Please, perform some basic hardware checks
1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button
2. Power it on.
2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one
3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.
If System Test/Quick test is not available, perform some basic tests and HDD test
4. Let me know the results
You need to purchase recovery media to re-install Windows and turn the PC to factory default condition. Your PC has an OEM type of Windows which cannot be downloaded from Microsoft website. You can purchase the media from here:
Once you receive the recovery media, you will need to boot from it.
Insert the Windows DVD (first one)
Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.
Power back on the PC.
As soon as you press the power-on button, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).
This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one
Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the DVD as a boot option.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows.

Let me know how it goes. Provide feedback and don't hesitate to post back if something is unclear.

Hi,
- All the system diagnostics and tests have been completed and passed with no issues.
- The HP Recovery manager doesn't exist. I've tried starting the system recovery using the f11 and nothing happens
- I was able to download from HP a system recovery but I'm unable to get it to launch. And I did go to the Bios to make sure I had everything in the right order and it looks like I do? Not 100% certain

Check whether you have recovery partition on your computer. If you have, ytou can use it for reinstalling the genuine operating system.
Otherwise, You need to purchase recovery media to re-install Windows and turn the PC to factory default condition.
