A couple of weeks ago, I ran a file check on. the hp diagnostics app and started having problems. Slow booting, chrome home page keeps getting highjacked by yahoo browser and wiping out home page quicklinks. I have to repeatedly reselect chrome browser. After recent windows update, system worked. This morning, system wont accept unlock pin. Went to safe boot screen and selected system diagnostics, got message that the system check file is improperly formatted or missing. Please, someone help.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

 

Run Startup Repair

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Press the Power button, then immediately press & hold F11 until the recovery screen appears.
  • Select Advanced Options → Startup Repair → Let it run.

 

Reset Your PIN

  • On the login screen, click I forgot my PIN → Follow the reset steps.
  • If it doesn’t work, log in with your Microsoft password instead.

 

Check & Repair Corrupted System Files

  • Press Win + X → Click Terminal (Admin).
  • Run these commands one by one: sfc /scannow
  • Restart after completion.

 

Reset Windows if Issues Persist

  • If nothing works, go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
  • Choose Keep my files to avoid losing personal data.
