Pavilion 15-e037cl Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this computer, an HP Pavilion 15-e037cl, from my sister who just used it for light browsing. I was told that the USB ports didn't work and assumed it would be something I would be able to fix. When I initially got the computer and did the factory reset, I wasn't allowed at first because the laptop mistakenly thought it was running Windows-to-go. After deactivating this I was able to reset. Upon starting the computer up, I started on the work with the USB ports. It has one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports. It's worth mentioning that I don't have any USB 3.0 devices to check if that specific port is functioning properly.

The ports do not detect anything when something is plugged in, so it's not a matter of the device being plugged in. When I first got the computer, I uninstalled everything and did a reset and re-installation of windows. I have since done so multiple times. When I go to do a system restore, the oldest access point is only from April 1, 2021, which is after I had already been working to try and fix the USB ports.

Here is a screenshot of my USB Controllers in device manager.

I have tried updating, uninstalling, and re-installing drivers. But again, I think my problem comes from that I don't have a USB 2.0 specific hub listed at all. I've tried activating, deactivating, and re-activating the USB Ports in RegEdit. When posting for help elsewhere, it was suggested I check to see if the ports are activated in BIOS. When I checked BIOS, this was the only thing pertaining to USB ports aside from Boot order (photo below).

The closest I feel I've gotten to a solution is from a previous HP Support Community post. In their description we seem to be having much of the same problem. However, the solution for them seemed to lie in that they had a previous, older version of the USB drivers to route their hubs to. When I looked for the files mentioned, usbxhci.inf and usbxhci.sys, again, my oldest file dates to 1/11/18. If I try to route anything to that driver, it simply says "You already have the best drivers installed".

Lastly, I've enabled the Portable Device Enumerator Service and set it to automatic startup to see if it would help and so far, nothing.

If there's anything you could suggest, I would very much appreciate the help. I don't think it's an external, physical problem with the USB ports, especially since there seems to be some weirdness going on with my drivers etc.

My other thought is that in BIOS it says that the laptop came with Windows 8.1 factory installed, however, as long as my sister had it, it ran Windows 10. I'm wondering if during the upgrade, the USB devices lost function somehow.

Thanks so much for any input.
