Hi @Phil2222,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are unable to turn on or enable BitLocker on your HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 11, here are some steps you can try.
- Check if your laptop meets the requirements for BitLocker. BitLocker requires a compatible TPM (Trusted Platform Module) chip and a TPM version of 1.2 or higher. You can check if your laptop has a compatible TPM chip by typing "tpm.msc" into the search bar and pressing Enter. If you see a message that says "Compatible TPM cannot be found," your laptop may not support BitLocker.
- Check if BitLocker is enabled on your laptop. You can check this by typing "Manage BitLocker" into the search bar and pressing Enter. If BitLocker is already enabled, you may not be able to turn it on again.
- Check if your laptop has enough free space to enable BitLocker. BitLocker requires a certain amount of free space on your hard drive or SSD to create an encrypted volume. You can check your free space by opening File Explorer and right-clicking on your hard drive or SSD, then selecting "Properties."
- Try enabling BitLocker through the Control Panel instead of the Settings app. To do this, go to Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption, and then click "Turn on BitLocker."
- Check if you have administrator privileges on your laptop. You need to be logged in as an administrator to enable BitLocker.
- If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the TPM on your laptop. To do this, open the BIOS settings by pressing the F10 key during boot-up. In the BIOS settings, look for the option to reset the TPM. Note that resetting the TPM may erase any existing encryption keys, so make sure to back up any important data before doing this.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
