250 G7 laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

my son was given a laptop from school and it his now his to keep. I wanted to change windows education edition to normal home edition. I have wiped the hard drive and done fresh install with ESD from Microsoft site using creation tool. Windows 10 installs ok and after a reboot you have to setup the account and when I get to network setup I have tried both wired and wireless internet connection. All that happens is a loop “checking the connection to Microsoft” etc. There is no skip and I cannot go back does anyone know a way round this one?

i appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

What you can try is disabling the WiFi in the laptop (there is usually a switch or key for this), disconnecting the network cable, and then attempting the reinstall.  Since Windows will not see any network hardware, it should skip over that and complete the installation.

Once you have it up and working, reconnect the ethernet cable, and Windows should then install the drives and get you connected.
