Elitebook 8570W
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an HP Elitebook 8570W that was supposedly refurbished by an authorized HP service center.  Windows 7 Pro does not update either automatically or manually and when I try to access the HP service center or HP in general, I can't do it.  I probably need to reinstall Win 7 Pro, but is there an easy way to download all of the drivers I'll need without having to do them one at a time?  Thanks!  ~Gary

Windows 7 is KNOWN to have Update problems for some time now, so before you do something drastic like completely reinstalling the OS (only to end up with the same problem), let me suggest some things you can do to address the Windows Update problem.

I maintain some PCs that still use Win7 (their owners despise Win10) and have found that the steps detailed below help to overcome the hung Windows Update problem ...

Download these updates before starting the installation process and copy them to a USB flash drive.

KB Links:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3020369
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083710
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172605

NOTE: If Win7 is not already running SP1, then you need to download and install it before running these Updates.

Once you have these updates saved, disconnect the network cable or disable the WiFi.

Install these updates from the flash drive before connecting to the network and running Windows Update.

You have to stop the Windows Update service BEFORE installing each of these. You do that by opening a command window and entering: net stop wuauserv

Note: If you have a problem with KB3172605, post back as there is a separate fix for that.

Then, after you re-enable Windows Update, it should only take 2-4 hours to find and do the updates, not days.

Good Luck

I've saved your links for future use, but my problem just changed.  The computer locked up, so I tried restarting in safe mode, but you can't F8 an SSD and if you try enough times, your drive stops responding.  Thanks to Newegg, I'm replacing the 128GB SSD with a WD 1TB Black, if I can locate the drivers that will allow the cd/dvd drive to work.  Always something...  Thanks for your advice, though, and I will be keepint the links for future reference.  ~G
