I am trying to upgrade from Vista 32bit on my dv6000t lap top. Based on your comments, you had luck upgrading to windows 8.
I called Microsoft and they said this laptop cannot be upgraded to windows 8 or 7. Strange that they would discourage upgrading to a newer operating system. Is there any reason why they would say this or are they saying that HP does not support any OS other than XP or Vista but Microsoft cannot guarantee i will work on the HP pavillion dv6000t?
Any guildance here would be appreciated.

My guess is that they cannot guarantee that Win8 will work. It would primarily be a driver issue. HP makes their PCs with so many different hardware configurations, it is uncertain if you will be able to find drivers for your particular laptop.
As I mentioned in my original post, I got lucky with the graphics driver because my DV6000 had an nVidia chip and nVidia released a driver that was compatible. You might not be so lucky.
If you are a enough of a hacker where you can safely image your disk and be able to recover if the Win8 installation fails, I say go for it. But if not, it might be too risky.

Thanks for your comments.
I have a 256MB NVIDA(R) GeForce(R) go 7400 graphics on my laptop. Sounds like this may work based on your comments.
I guess if this fails, I could always go back to Vista. I have the original installation DVD. I could start from scratch. I already removed all the data and profiles of the laptop so I am not concerned about losing data.
I want to ask if Windows 8 install fails, do you think I could do a fresh reinstall of Vista 32bit from the original installation DVD (ie, reformat the hard drive and do a fresh install)?
Again, thank you in advance for your opinion on this.
