Hi @Mac3651,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for contacting HP Support. We understand you're using an HP Spectre x360 running Microsoft Windows 11, and after installing a Windows Update on May 25, your system no longer boots — it hangs on the HP logo with the spinning wheel.

This issue is often caused by: A corrupt Windows update, A driver conflict, or a boot file issue. Below are the recommended steps to recover your system:

STEP 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the AC adapter and disconnect all peripherals (USB devices, SD cards, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Plug in the power and turn it back on.

If it still hangs, proceed to the next step.

STEP 2: BIOS Restore:

1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in

2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.

3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.

4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

Once you try, if you still have issues, let me know so we can try advanced steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Mac3651,

Thanks for the details. Since the HP Spectre x360 is stuck on the HP logo screen with a spinning wheel after a Windows Update, and you've already tried a hard reset and a BIOS restore, here are the next steps to try

Step 1: Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

  1. Force shutdown the laptop by holding the power button for 10 seconds.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press the power button again to force a shutdown.
  3. Repeat this 3 times — on the 4th boot, it should enter WinRE (blue screen with recovery options).

If it does, proceed to the next step. If not, let me know — we’ll try alternate methods like booting from a recovery USB.

Step 2: Use System Restore (if available)

  1. In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  2. Choose a restore point before the update was installed.
  3. Follow the prompts to restore.

Step 3: Uninstall the Problematic Update

If System Restore isn’t available or doesn’t work:

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates.
  2. Choose Uninstall latest quality update or feature update (try quality update first).
  3. Restart and check if Windows boots.

Step 4: Startup Repair

  1. In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  2. Let it scan and attempt to fix boot issues.

Step 5: Boot into Safe Mode

  1. In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  2. After restart, press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  3. If it boots, you can uninstall the update manually from Settings > Windows Update > Update History.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
