@rc164, welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the stop code DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION on your HP 15-fd0000 series laptop. This issue is often related to faulty or outdated drivers, especially those that interact with Direct Memory Access (DMA), such as storage or USB drivers.

Let’s walk through a few steps to resolve this:

Update All Drivers and BIOS

Outdated or incompatible drivers are the most common cause of this BSOD.

  1. Visit the official HP support page for your model:
    Official HP® Support
  2. Download and install:
    • The latest BIOS update
    • Chipset drivers
    • Storage (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) drivers
    • Graphics and USB drivers

💡 Tip: Use the HP Support Assistant to automatically detect and install updates. HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

Disable Driver Verifier (if enabled)

If you manually enabled Driver Verifier, it can cause BSODs when it detects driver issues.

  1. Press Windows + R, type verifier, and press Enter.
  2. Select Delete existing settings, then click Finish.
  3. Restart your PC.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Check for hardware issues using HP’s built-in diagnostics:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on, then press F2 for System Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Extensive Test for memory and storage.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.

Perform a Clean Boot

This helps identify if a third-party service or driver is causing the issue.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  3. Go to the Startup tab and open Task Manager.
  4. Disable all startup items.
  5. Restart your PC.

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers. A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care and happy computing!

Best regards,
