@tokalno5, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand your HP laptop is not starting properly, you're seeing the power light briefly and hearing a startup sound, but it shuts off almost immediately. Since the charging light stays on, we know the charger is working, but the system isn't completing POST (Power-On Self-Test).

Let’s try these steps to troubleshoot:

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear residual power and can fix startup issues.

  1. Disconnect the charger.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the charger and try powering it on again.

If your laptop has a removable battery, remove it before step 2.

Check for Signs of Life

  • Do you see the HP logo or hear any beeps?
  • Does the fan spin briefly?
  • If yes, it may be a display or BIOS issue.

Try a BIOS Recovery

HP laptops often support BIOS recovery via key combinations.

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold Windows key + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  3. Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.

If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

External Display Test

If the laptop powers on but the screen stays black:

  • Connect it to an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C.
  • Power it on and check if the external display shows anything.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
