just bought hp g7 notebook w/windows 8...when i try to sign in it clicks with ea. attempt to type but no letters appear in the sign in box  so i'm locked out...the only chg. i made to the keyboard was to check the box so that letters wouldn't accidently repeat themselves...help and thanks

Restart and press the Esc key go into the UEFI menu. This will tell you that your keyboard works outside of Windows. If you still can't log in, at the sign-in screen, click the little white circle thingy in the lower left corner and use the on-screen keyboard to click your keys from themouse... and then when you are in Windows you can do more troubleshooting.

Did you perform a hard reset? If not then try the steps exactly mentioned in the link below and check:

thanks...tried it but still can't type in password...is there a key on the keyboard itself that i may have hit accidently to disable the keyboard?

I have tried using onscreen keyboard. worked once but told me I had to change password at account.live.com. I did but then still couldn't enter password, not even with onscreen keyboard.
