The Keyboard does not work on every start.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I think it's the driver. I only found older (2020) for windows 10.

But I don't know who is the manufractur of that keybord, to find out an newer driver.

Does anybody has the same Problem an solved ist?

Hi @analyse

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your keyboard intermittently failing after upgrading to Windows 11 is likely due to driver compatibility or power management conflicts. You can stabilize it by reinstalling the keyboard driver and adjusting startup settings.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery process to help your keyboard respond reliably every time you boot.

Step-by-Step: Fix Intermittent Keyboard Function on Windows 11

1. Reinstall the Standard PS/2 Keyboard Driver

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
  • Expand Keyboards.
  • Right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard > Uninstall device.
  • Confirm and restart your laptop.

Windows will reinstall the default driver automatically. This often resolves startup detection issues.

2. Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  • Save changes and restart.

Fast Startup can interfere with hardware initialization, especially on older systems upgraded to Windows 11.

3. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  • Visit your notebook’s support page on HP’s site:
    HP Drivers & Downloads
  • Enter your exact model number.
  • Download and install:
    • BIOS update
    • Chipset driver
    • Input device driver (if listed)

These updates improve hardware communication and may resolve intermittent keyboard detection.

4. Check for Windows Optional Updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.
  • Look under Driver Updates for any keyboard-related entries.
  • Install and restart.

5. Test in Clean Boot Mode

  • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  • Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Go to Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items.
  • Restart and test keyboard behavior.

This helps rule out third-party software conflicts.

If the issue persists, I can help you identify the internal keyboard manufacturer using system logs or guide you through checking the hardware ID in Device Manager. Just let me know your notebook’s full model name or product number.
