Hi @Clémoki26,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "unknown UUF" error during the recovery process can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Check Recovery Media

  • Media Integrity: Ensure that the recovery media (USB or DVD) is not corrupted. If you created the recovery media yourself, consider recreating it using the HP Recovery Media Creation tool.
  • Correct Version: Make sure the recovery media corresponds to your specific laptop model and original OS version.

2. BIOS Settings

  • Secure Boot: Check your BIOS settings to see if Secure Boot is enabled. Try disabling it temporarily to see if it helps with the recovery.
  • Legacy Mode: If the recovery media is not UEFI-compatible, consider switching to Legacy Mode in the BIOS.

3. Run Diagnostics

  • HP Hardware Diagnostics: Run the built-in HP hardware diagnostics to check for any underlying hardware issues:
    • Restart your laptop and press Esc during startup, then select Diagnostics from the menu.

4. Update BIOS

  • If possible, ensure your BIOS is updated to the latest version available on the HP support website for your model. An outdated BIOS can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.

5. Use HP Recovery Manager

  • If your laptop still has the recovery partition, try using the HP Recovery Manager instead of external media:
    • Restart your laptop and press F11 repeatedly during startup to access the recovery options.

6. Windows Installation Media

  • As an alternative, you can create a Windows installation USB using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. This allows you to perform a clean installation of Windows, which might help in resolving the UUF error:
    • Download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website.
    • Follow the prompts to create a bootable USB and use it to install Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
