@Hmaid,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I understand why you would question it, but the behavior you're describing is normal for the HP Victus 15-fa2701wm and similar gaming laptops. Although the GPU (graphics card) is rated for up to 75-watt, the actual power draw depends on HP's factory power limits (PL1/PL2 for CPU and GPU) and the system's thermal design and power adapter capacity.

Here are the main points explaining the 50-watt cap you're seeing:

  1. HP Power Management Design:
    HP often limits GPU power below the theoretical maximum (75-watt) to balance performance, thermals, and power delivery -especially when paired with the 200-watt adapter. Your model's RTX 3050, for instance, typically runs at 50–60-watt TGP in HP's Victus chassis.

  2. Omen Gaming Hub Settings:
    Some Victus models don't include the "Performance Mode" toggle in Omen Gaming Hub; they operate under an automatically managed "Default" mode. The higher modes are often reserved for Omen-series laptops or Victus units with higher-capacity cooling systems and power bricks (230-watt+).

  3. Why the Website Says 75-watt:
    GPU specifications on Nvidia's site show the maximum supported power for that chip across all laptop designs. OEMs like HP can configure it lower (e.g., 50-watt) for their own cooling and power limits. This is sometimes called a Max-Q or efficiency-tuned configuration.

  4. Can You Increase It?
    Unfortunately, no. On HP Victus laptops, GPU power limits are firmware-controlled and cannot be changed via BIOS or software. Undervolting or overclocking tools will not override the built-in TGP limit.

Summary:

Your GPU and Victus are functioning as intended. HP configured your GPU to a 50-watt TGP (Total Graphics Power) to ensure stable performance and thermals within the 200-watt power supply system design, even though the RTX 3050 chip itself supports up to 75-watt.

Kind Regards,
