15-r132wm
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I need to make a complete backup over the home network from the laptop to the desktop. The notebook, 15-r132wm is running 64 bit Windows 8.1. The desktop is running 64 bit Windows 10 1803. How do I do this? Thanks. wnlewis

First of all, a "complete backup" can only be done by creating an Image Backup because there are hidden files and folders on the source PC that file and folder backups will not find.

Second, there are utilities, the best of them being Macrium Reflect, that will allow you to make such backups but (as far as I know) the target of the backup has to be a storage device (i.e., SDD or HDD) and while these can be networked, they can not be a different PC.

So basically, you would have to connect a storage device, make an image backup to it, then reconnect it to the Win10 PC, and migrate the backup there.

How about the networking aspect?

I want to at least network the two PC's.
