Hi @Paula6103,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is not starting up and showing a black screen or a blue screen with startup help options that don't work, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check if your laptop is getting power: Make sure your laptop is properly plugged in or has a charged battery. Check if the power indicator light is on.
  • Disconnect external devices: Disconnect any external devices such as USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc. that might be connected to your laptop.
  • Try booting into safe mode: Restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu. From there, select Safe Mode and see if your laptop starts up.
  • Perform a hard reset: Turn off your laptop and disconnect the power cable. Remove the battery (if possible) and hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power cable and try starting up your laptop.
  • Use a recovery or installation disc: If you have a Windows installation or recovery disc, insert it into your laptop and boot from it. Follow the on-screen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
