Hi @ED-13

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Losing your sign-in password can be frustrating, but there are ways to regain access to your laptop.

Here are some steps you can try:

1. Reset Password for a Microsoft Account

If you're using a Microsoft account to sign in:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page on another device.
  2. Follow the instructions to verify your identity and reset your password.
  3. Use the new password to log in to your laptop.

2. Reset Password for a Local Account

If you're using a local account:

  1. On the sign-in screen, select Reset Password (if available).
  2. Answer the security questions you set up during account creation.
  3. Create a new password and log in.

3. Use a Password Reset Disk

If you created a password reset disk earlier:

  1. Insert the disk or USB drive into your laptop.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.

4. Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Restart your laptop and press F8 repeatedly to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  2. Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
  3. Use the command net user [username] [newpassword] to reset your password.

5. Reinstall Windows

If all else fails, you can reinstall Windows to regain access. Note that this will erase your data unless you back it up:

  1. Create a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation files.
  2. Boot from the USB and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
