@twar, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop that freezes randomly!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP Envy laptop, which is about 8 months old, is freezing or randomly restarting, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues:

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure all drivers, especially the graphics driver, are updated. You can do this through Windows Update or by visiting the HP Support website for your specific model.

Scan for Malware:

  • Use Windows Security or another trusted antivirus software to perform a full scan and remove any malware threats.

Check for Overheating:

  • Ensure your laptop is not overheating. Clean any dust from the vents and use the laptop on hard, flat surfaces to improve airflow.

Update BIOS:

  • Ensure the BIOS is up to date. Visit the HP Support website and search for updates specific to your laptop model.

Perform System Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to run a system test. Restart your laptop and press F2 during startup to access this tool.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure settings are optimized for performance and power saving is balanced.

Examine Event Viewer:

  • Open Event Viewer by typing it in the Start menu search bar. Check for any critical errors that correspond with the time your laptop freezes or restarts.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • To determine if a background program is causing the issue, perform a clean boot. Type msconfig in the Start menu search bar, and choose Selective startup to disable any startup programs temporarily.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
