pavilion 17t ssd interface

Product Name: Pavilion 17t-ab000
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Does the Pavilion 17t-ab000 support a nvme ssd interface?  I have the machine (product V2Z45AV) and SANDRA shows a pcie 3x1 inteface but the manual ( shows a faster drive (512 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe TLC PA, for use with non-touch screen products, part 847110-004)  is available implying to me that nvme is available.  The BIOS does  not indicate one way or another.

Re: pavilion 17t ssd interface

Hi @Rick622,

Thanks for becoming a member of the HP Support Forums. I understand you have questions about SSD. I will be glad to help you.

I would stay with the 512 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe TLC PA part number 847110-004. As the part has been tested for compatible with this computer.

For all  other SSD they may or may not work, see HP Notebook Hard Drives & Solid State Drives.

Please keep me informed of how things went.

Re: pavilion 17t ssd interface

My current drive is an M.2 SATA drive (2280) with B and M keys.  HP cannot tell me about their nvme drive keys.  The Samsung, etc. nvme drives I've looked at all appear to be M keyed.  HP also cannot give me any info on pcie 3x1, 3x2 or 3x4.  Right now, I have too many unanswered questions and will probably return the computer.

Re: pavilion 17t ssd interface

the manual says that a 17t-AB000 can use only a 128 gb SSD if it has a touchscreen, but can use a larger one without a touchscreen.  does the touchscreen really matter?  The 128 my son has is so small it is useless with engineering software.

i'd really like to know if i can upgrade this to something useful, or if this was a waste of $1k
